What Come You Here to Do?
From the School of [More than Three] Hard Knocks
by Stephen A. Balke
Release date: 30 October 2026
Who’s really making your choices?
Everyday noise has come to be accepted. Today, you are more likely to spend time with your apps than with your spouse, friends, family, or even co-workers. You might even have one or more subscriptions to games, reels, or shows that contribute to distracting you from being you. Outside and inside — what is in your way?
What Come You Here to Do? is a field guide to taking back the wheel.
Stephen A. Balke grew up collecting baggage just like everyone else. He failed math with a correct answer, creatively skirted established paths, chased conspiracy theories — and still asks too many questions. Two decades of teaching later, he shares the tools that worked: tracing a belief to its source, naming the lion behind your stress, sorting rationalizations from excuses, building habits on purpose, and giving yourself momentum to create your vision of the future you.
Thirteen chapters move from why to what to how to what if. Each ends with a short exercise you do in writing.
Masonry gave him a question. He applied it in life. This book gives the question to you in hopes that your answer to it brings you more fulfillment.
